This restaurant is probably already super famous within Hsinchu itself, but since I'm already typing it up, I'll just keep going with this post.

It's in the Longshan neighborhood near a lot of other restaurants. There's quite a few beef noodle places, a Korean barbecue place our family often visits as well , a teppanyaki across the street, etc.

The restaurant itself is pretty plain, but there's always a bunch of people (if we come when it's empty, it still fills up pretty soon, lol. There were a few times when we had to find other places to eat because there were so many customers.)

The menu's only in Chinese, and there aren't too many choices, but it's quite enough for us to choose from. I don't do well with giant menus because I want to eat everything x_x.

We usually just get the normal beef pho (which is kind of like Pho number 7 in most Vietnamese places in America, except it uses thicker noodles.) You have a choice of thick rice, thin rice or egg noodles for all noodle soups. It was pretty hot that day though, and I'd missed eating Saigon street noodles, so I got that instead.

Apart from pho and other noodles, there's also small dishes like chicken salad to choose from, as well as Vietnamese braised pork rice and coconut mung bean mush if you're thirsty (my brother always gets that, although I'm not a big fan of the coconut...)

Fried spring rolls

These are pretty good! I always miss these when I'm in the States because I haven't found a place that sells spring rolls like these (there's a place in Greensboro that comes close, but not quite there yet.) They're really crisp without being overly oily, and I don't really know what's in them...? There's bits of carrots and I saw someone online say there's taro mush inside as well (I hate taro but it's so goooood here.)

Beef Pho

Looks just like your usual pho. I really like the soup base though; it's a little different from pho in America? A little more savoury, maybe, less aromatic, but it's something I miss. I used to really hate pho (and coming to this restaurant), but all that's changed after college since most of my friends really like it.

Lemongrass Grilled Pork Rice Noodles

It's a pretty big bowl (and I didn't end up finishing all of it--there's this great thing about having a brother >:)) and they gave plenty of pork and vegetables. The meat does taste pretty different than what I'm used to (less sweet?). I kind of miss that barbecue flavor that comes with the meat, but it was pretty good nonetheless.

Tomato Beef Noodles

My dad ordered this ...... I didn't get a chance to taste it XD oh well. Sorry for the potato quality.

You really want to fall asleep in such hot weather......so we went to get some ice right after XD. There aren't any pictures, but we got lemon aiyu from a pretty famous grass jelly stand in the NTHU nightmarket. So good <3

If you're Japanese, you might be more familiar with this type of confectionery as Imagawayaki (今川焼). The Taiwanese version is called variously as simply 'red bean cake' or 'wheel cake' (for its shape) and is slightly crisper (according to Wikipedia, anyway), and they're usually sold 5-20 NTD apiece depending on where you are. There used to be a stand selling these for 5 NTD down near the intersection near 50lan, but I haven't seen it in a while.

Anyway, these were pretty expensive at 15 NTD (~50 cents) a piece, but they were pretty big, so I guess that evens out? Slightly? There was a lot of custard in mine (you can get a couple of different flavors for these things - the most popular is red bean, but I love custard) but I don't have a picture since...the camera died right after this one. Oops.
